Today we will discuss about Bangalore Medical College Karnataka.

Inception

The Bangalore Medical College and research Institute was initially a private medical college which was started in year back 1955.

It was started by mysore Education society.

Society

The members of this Society were  Dr. R. Shivaram, Dr. Mekhri, Dr. B.K. Narayana Rao and Dr. B.V. Ramaswamy.

But latest on in 1957  this  was handed over to the Government of Mysore and was affiliated to Mysore University. But later on affiliated to Bangalore University.

In the year 1996 it got affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.

Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute has recognition from Medical counseling of India for 150 MBBS  seats  + 100 seats admitted under 10A of MCI rules.

In addition to this  135 PG  seats and there are  about  71 Diploma seats.

The College have a well stocked Central library  with thousands of standard books and subscribes to more than  120 journals (Foreign , Indian) each year.

Institute Alumni

One thing we must bring to your knowledge that Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute Alumni  have constructed a Digital Library and State of the Art Seminar Hall.

This Digital Library have more than 60  nodes, which is used by the students and faculty of Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute to acquire latest knowledge.

Seminar Hall

In addition to this  A State of Art Seminar Hall has been constructed with a capacity of  more than 300 seats with the facilities of latest equipment for Tele-teaching.

A Tele-medicine unit in collaboration with ISRO was started on the eve of Golden Jubilee Celebrations on 1.1.2006, with this Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute is the first Govt. Medical College to provide this facility in the state of Karnataka.

M/s. Infosys Foundation has constructed and donated a 24 hours Central Laboratory at Victoria Hospital campus for the poor and needy patients at a cost of Rs 3 crores and Government of Karnataka has installed equipment’s worth of Rs. 3 crores for  the Lab.

It will not only fulfill the long pending requirement of the Medical Counseling of India, but also it will be very useful to UG, PG,Fellow ship students  , Super-specialty students and faculty of Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute also.

Victoria Hospital is one of the oldest Hospitals with approximately 1000 beds wherein more than 800 patients are admitted as inpatient and nearly 900 patients are treated as out-patients every day.

Vani vilas hospital, also one of the oldest hospitals has 535 beds and an average of 75-80 patients are treated as out-patients every day, 17-20 patients admitted, and average 500 surgeries per month are conducted.

Bowring and Lady Curzon hospital has 690 beds and an average of 700-900 patients are treated as outpatients every day, 70-80 patients get admitted, and average 420-450 deliveries per month are conducted in addition to 800 surgeries per month.
