MBBS seats in India 2023
As per latest information , at the time of 2023-24 counselling there will be more than 710 medical colleges with 110000 MBBS seats in India .If we compare with last year data this year there will be 12000 more MBBS seats.
Till now 53 new medical colleges gets approval for MBBS admission in coming session 2023-24. Out of these 53 new medical colleges 31(Thirty one) are Government and 22 (Twenty Two) are deemed/private medical colleges.
If we check state wise new medical colleges ,highest 12 (Twelve) are in Telangana ,05 (five) each in Rajasthan ,Andhra Pradesh & Maharashtra ,04 (Four ) in Gujarat ,03 (Three) each in Assam, Haryana ,Karnataka , Tamil Nadu , 02 (Two) in West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha , J& K and 01 (one) each in Uttar Pradesh & Nagaland .
As of now, as per official website of NMC ( November 22,2023) there are 706 medical colleges in India . Out of these 706 medical colleges there are 389 Govt./Semi Govt. , AIIMS & Central Universities/ Instituitions , 52 are deemed Universities and remaining 265 are private medical colleges in various states/UT’s of India. If we talked about number of MBBS seats ,till now there are 108915 MBBS seats (56268 in Govt. /Semi Govt. Instituitions & 51880 in private/Deemed medical colleges across India).

Last year Bihar government has proposed to reserve 33 % seats for girls students in medical colleges of Bihar as well as engineering colleges of the state. Two private medical colleges and one ESIC medical colleges were added from last year in Bihar . Number of MBBS seats in each private medical college is 150 and 100 seats in ESIC . Name of these colleges are as follows:
- Radha Devi Jageshwari Memorial Medical College and Hospital
- Shree Narayan Medical Institute and Hospital
- Employees State Insurance Corporation Medical College,Patna-100 MBBS Seats
To implement this state government is planning to bring two new Bills — the Bihar Engineering Universities Bill and Bihar Medical Education Bill — in the coming Assembly session to give formal shape to these proposals. If we talked about Bihar state , it has around 2,030 B E/B.Tech seats and 1,330 MBBS and BDS seats in the 11 Govt. medical and 38 state engineering colleges . As per government official ,there are 30% girls in government medical colleges, but their representation in engineering colleges is only about 15 %. Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (BCECE) will do counselling for all professional medical courses like MBBS ,BDS etc. For admission purpose application form will be published by state counselling authority. Bihar MBBS BDS admission application form will be available in month of June, 2023. Admission form will be in the online mode after declaration of NEET UG 2023 result which is expected by mid of June,2023 . All those applicants who are seeking admission in Bihar state have to qualify NEET UG exam . For your reference last year qualifying percentile is given in the same article. In addition to this applicants must have to qualify the mandatory eligibility criteria prescribed by Bihar state .Only eligible candidates can apply for the Bihar MBBS/BDS registration form 2023. Form will be submitted successfully only after fee deposit. The tentative date to apply online application form is last week of June,2023. The registration fee of admission form can be paid online using debit/credit card, net banking or through bank challan. There will be total three round of counselling and even if there is any seat remains vacant then stray vacancy round of counselling will be there .
