 Counselling Reality Check (Very Important)

  • MBBS ≠ only success route
Nursing, Pharma, IISER, Public Health & Allied Health often give faster ROI.
  • Abroad-oriented students → Nursing, Pharma, IISER, Biotechnology, Public Health
  • Service-oriented & job security → AFMC, Govt Nursing, AYUSH
  • Research-minded students → IISER, BITS M.Sc, Biotechnology

Short notes & counselling tips (practical)

  • MBBS & BDS: require NEET-UG — AIIMS no longer has separate MBBS test (admission via NEET). For AIIMS specifics see AIIMS prospectus.

  • AFMC Pune (MBBS): candidates must clear NEET-UG and then go through AFMC’s own screening (physical fitness, clinical tests, interview); selected students have service bond/commission obligations.

  • IISER BS-MS: best for students wishing research/academic careers; entry via IAT / KVPY / JEE Advanced / SCB — not NEET.

  • BITSAT: BITS Pilani admits to B.E., M.Sc. and B.Pharm via BITSAT (so PCB students aiming for M.Sc at BITS must check BITSAT M.Sc eligibility).

  • AYUSH courses: BAMS/BHMS admissions are handled through NEET-UG ranks for AYUSH counselling in many states — check state AYUSH counselling rules.

  • B.Sc Nursing & Allied Health: many colleges admit via college / state tests or merit (not NEET). AIIMS and central institutes often have separate admission notices for nursing.

  • Career strategy: If NEET rank is below MBBS cutoffs, plan hybrid strategy — apply for B.Sc Nursing / BPT / B.Sc Biotechnology / Allied Health + prepare for next NEET attempt; these give early clinical exposure and fall-backs.
