HISTORY OF SRM GROUP OF INSTITUTIONS

Similarly in 1985  society have started  SRM Engineering College in Kattankulathur, near Chennai.If we talk about medical discipline it was started in year 1992 in the form of Pharmacy college.Name of their pharmacy college was  SRM College of Nursing and SRM College of Pharmacy.Just in as gap of one year society launch college of Physiotherapy .It was started in 1993 and name was  SRM School of Nursing and SRM College of Physiotherapy.

In the same year ,group also launched hotel of management in 1993.And we have seen most of their institution were named after SRM so this management college was also named as  SRM Institute of Hotel Management.

And location of this college was in Chennai and Trichy.

You will be surprised to know that in 1993 they have also started a new college.This college started offering course of Arts , Science .And all thses coursed were affiliated with University of Madras.

And name of college was ” SRM Arts , Science  College”.

After that it was turn of dental college.It was started after two years of gap in 1995-96. Name of  college was SRM Dental College.In year 1996 new SRM Polytechnic Institute was started .Similarly n new engineering college Easwari Engineering College affiliated to the Anna University was started in 1996 – 97 . In the same year OT was started .And you can easily guess the name of college was  SRM College of Occupational Therapy.

Management college

Now it was the turn of Management college and place chosen was Delhi.So in  1997 – 98 SRM Institute of Management , Technology, Delhi was launched.Within just two years in session 1999 -2000  Valliammai Engineering College affiliated to the Anna University was started.

Deemed to be University

Now it was the turn to convert colleges in to deemed university and their dream comes true in 2002 – UGC has declared the SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai comprising SRM Dental College, Ramapuram as deemed to be University under Sec. 3 of the UGC Act 1956.

Similarly just after one year in 2003 SRM Engineering, Kattankulathur, Chennai was brought under the ambit of SRMIST, Chennai a deemed to be University.

Medical College

Their first medical college was started in year 2005 – 06.Name of the medical college was  SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, Chennai, was started in the SRMIST, the deemed to be University.

And School of Education, Faculty of Science and Humanities, Kattankulathur.

In year 2005 -06  SRM College of Pharmacy, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, in Chennai and SRM Institute of Management and Technology, Modinagar, Delhi was brought under the ambit of SRM Institute of Science and Technology (formerly known as SRM University).

UGC approval

In September 2006 UGC permitted the Deemed to be Universities to be called as Universities under Sec. 3 of the UGC Act 1956.

Since then SRMIST deemed to be University is called as SRM Institute of Science and Technology (formerly known as SRM University).Similarly in 2007  SRM Kattankuthur Dental College was started under the ambit of SRM Institute of Science and Technology (formerly known as SRM University).

In year 2007 group enters in to a new field and it was community radio.So in year 2007 SRM Community Radio was started.

More importantly society  have started  Chennai Medical College and place was Trichy.

Inter Disciplinary School of Indian System of Medicine was started in 2010.One more Engineering was added to this group in session 2010 – 2011 .

And name of the college was  TRP Engineering College, Trichy, Affiliated to the Anna University.

 Faculty of Science and Humanities, Ramapuram Part – II Vadapalani, SRM Institute of Science and Technology (formerly known as SRM University) was started in 2011-12.

In 2013 group spread its wing in Delhi NCR and now its the turn of Haryana state  to get a University in Sonepat and name of college is  SRM Institute of Science and Technology (formerly known as SRM University), Haryana

Similarly  SRM Institute of Science and Technology (formerly known as SRM University), Sikkim was started in year 2014.

CAMPUS

From the starting aim of  SRM group is to give quality education . In   SRM group of Institutions Learning is fun and students  enjoy it. The reason is very simple -the facilities provided by management.

Whether we talk about experienced faculty, well stocked  libraries and stimulating discussion rooms, large playgrounds and state-of-the-art well equipped  laboratories. With a view to impart quality education  SRM functions at four  campuses.

LIBRARY

SRM Institute of Science and Technology (formerly known as SRM University) has an excellent library for the benefit of not only of students, but also for faculty members  and research fellow. As one of the best established libraries according to International Standards, the University Library has a large collection of books covering various branches of Engineering and Technology, Medical and Health Sciences and Science and Humanities and its related fields. The library is nearly three decades old. It is fully Air Conditioned and automated with RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology. The library is well Protected with fire alarms and CCTV Security systems.

Building

The library is located in the 15-Storey University Administrative Block, and is spread over Ground + 3 floors of 1.50 Lakh sq ft area. The library building is

• Equipped with reading halls in all the floors, with reference collection

Level 1 : It is reserved for Engineering and Technology section which includes Reading Hall 1,2, Circulation Counter, Librarian, library Office and Cafeteria.

Similarly Level 2 is allocated to  Computer Science and Life Science books -Reading Hall, Own Book , Discussion Hall and Digital Library.

Level 3 is reserved for  Science , Humanities Including Arts, Management, Languages Text. Competitive Exam Books, etc.,

And the most important level is Level 4 where you can have access of old Theses , Dissertations, Projects reports, Back Volumes, Reference Books, Reading Hall

Note:The Central Library is closed during all government and declared festival holidays.
