These are the official confirmed eligibility criteria for qualifying in NEET 2023

Age Limit for NEET UG 2023

The minimum age criteria for candidates to qualify in the NEET UG exam is 17 years old. No matter which category you belong to, you must be 17 years old.

As of NEET UG 2023 students who are born before 31 December are eligible for the NEET entrance exam.

Earlier maximum age limit for NEET UG was 25 years for Unreserved category and 30 years for the reserved category candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC-NCL category and PwD Candidates) but now as per latest court decision there is no upper age limit .

Minimum Qualifying Marks in NEET UG 2023 as per Eligibility Criteria

Students who have appeared/passed class 12th with physics, chemistry, and biology/biotech subjects are eligible for NEET UG .

NIOS students with biology subjects are now also eligible for the exam.

NRI/Foreign students also must have 12th passed or equivalent examination with physics, chemistry, biology and English in order to be eligible for NEET UG .

Qualifying Marks For General Unreserved Category – 50% ( PH means Physically Handicapped– 45%) and for OBC/SC/ST or any other reserved category – 45% (PH – 40%) 

Note: The marks scored for Math would not be taken into consideration in this exam

Number of attempts for NEET UG

After the year 2018, number of attempt cap has been removed, and now students can take the NEET UG entrance exam as many times as they like. There is clearly no restriction on it.

NEET UG Eligibility Criteria for State Quota Admissions

As we know that  85% seats of MBBS reserved for candidates under state quota in government medical colleges of the states and union territory. 

And the counseling for these state quota seats is done by state authorities. Hence students must meet the criteria to apply in state quota.

  • Candidate must be a resident of that particular state
  • Must have proofs to verify their residency
  • Candidate must have completed 12th from that respective state

NEET UG Eligibility Criteria for All India Quota Admissions

After allocation, 85% of seats under State quota, remaining 15% seats are allocated at the central level for All India Quota (AIQ).

Here are the important things and meeting criteria that you should know,

  • The student must be a citizen of India
  • Indian nationality candidates, NRI, PIOs, OCIs and all the foreign nationals related to India are eligible for 15% All India Quota. Click here to have a look on latest norms for OCI candidates.
  • To get admission via AIQ, candidates must have to take part in online counseling conducted by the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC).
  • After the 2nd round of counseling, if any seat remains from All India Quota then it will be converted as State Quota.
  • Telangana and Andhra Pradesh students can now take part in AIQ counseling and do not need a self-declaration form.
  • Students from J,K and Ladakh still need to submit self-declaration forms online in order to participate in online counseling for All India quota seats.

NEET UG Eligibility Criteria for NRI/Foreign Students

NRI/Foreign students also must have 12th passed or equivalent examination with physics, chemistry, biology and English in order to be eligible for a NEET exam. After clearing NEET entrance, NRI, PIOs, OCIs, and all the foreign nationals related to India are eligible for 15% All India Quota.

Qualifying Examination Codes in NEET UG 2023 Eligibility

Students who apply for NEET 2021, must have to select a code for being eligible in the examination. All the codes are given below please read carefully so you don’t have any confusion.

Code 1: This code for Class 12th students, who appeared in the exam but their results have not been declared yet. So these students will select code 1.

By the time college admission, they must have been passed otherwise their eligibility will be canceled.

Code 2: Students who are studying in higher or senior secondary or Indian School Certificate Examination (ISCE) which is an equal study to Class 12 examination and comes after a period of 12 years of study must choose this code. 

The last two years from 10th to 12th of their study must have science subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology with English as a core subject as prescribed by the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT). 

For example, students who have qualified Class 12 in the year 2019 or before and have not pursued any other course after passing Class 12 have to choose this code.

Code 3: Students who have done their Intermediate/Pre-degree Examination in Science from  Indian University/Board or other recognized board with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English as a compulsory subject must have to choose code 3.

Code 4: Students who have done their Pre-professional/Pre-medical Examination after passing from the Higher Secondary Examination or the Pre-University or an equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology with English must choose this code.

Code 5: Students who are doing the three years degree course from recognized University with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology as mandatory subjects and have passed the first year including practical tests in these subjects are needed to select this code.

Code 6: Students who have passed the B.Sc Examination from Indian University with any two subjects from Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany, Zoology)/Bio-technology must choose code 6. 

Note: before this, they must have passed their 12th with subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology.

Code 7: Those students who have passed any other examination which in scope and standard is equal to the Intermediate Science Examination of an Indian University/Board, with Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology including practical tests in each of these subjects and English have to enter this code 7 in the form. 

It is also understood that the last two years of study must include Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
